There is a program called CLEDnnn.LZH (can't remember the version) at
atari.archive. It was written as an example of GEM programming, so you
might find it in the /programming directory.

I have been getting some e-mail on the letter I'm planning to
write Atari but I would really like to talk to you guys online.
If you have telnet access, try logging on the Cleveland Free-Net.
The system has multi-user chat. We can get our heads together and
write Atari a letter. I know it will get through because it has in
the past. I know this because I talked to the person who got it and
he quoted me things from it.
Once we write the letter, we can say to ourselves, "HEY! We told them
what we wanted, if they screw it up, we can't help them!"
You would telnet to 129.22.8.75
If you can't get in with that address, I'll find another one.
If you don't have an ID already, I don't know what to say. It takes about
two weeks and I am hoping to have the conference this weekend or
something.
And if you forgot what my letter was about, it is a letter about what
we would like to see Atari's new ST computers have. I've been told
they are still under development so we can still get in our suggestions.
Thanks.
P.S. That is NOT an FTP number. Telnet and FTP are different.

KAOS, the alternative OS is a commercial product. But this applies only
for the "genuine" OS itself (i.e. ROM-files etc.).
Some utilities like KAOSDESK may be copied and distributed.

Hello,
I've only tried to post once before and I don't even know if that one got
out. I've been trying to access dsrgsun.ces.cwru.edu for access to the
atari archives that are (were?) there. I'm unable to get a directory
after an anonymous FTP login. It seems that there is a /pub/atari directory,
but I can't see what's in it. I assume that it's set up that way for
security reasons. Which brings up my questions:
1. Are there still archives there?
2. If there are, how do you find out what's there?
Email replies to semra@ral.arc.nasa.gov and place my name (Don George) in
the reply as this is a shared account. Also, since I don't know if my posts
are going out or not, could someone please reply anyway. Let's set a time
limit of about a day to reply, that way I don't get bomarded with replies
from now until doomsday (not too likely, but you never know). Thanks for
the help.
I guess I need to make up a sig one of these days.

I've tried testing a bang path. Let me know if it works.

I don't think this would be the best way to do this. Too many
problems arise when you try to juggle message formats, and errors can
make you very unpopular. The monthly " Some FidoNet site's dumping garbage
on the net again" threads are very enlightening in regards to much damage
can be done by software that assumes too much.
A far better solution, IMO, RCSU, would be to write a doors interface
to Mercury, and flesh out the bare bones rn and elm that came in that
package. BBS Express uses a very C like script language, so if you can
handle that, C shouldn't be much of a leap. You need to keep your
Usenet mail and news very clean nowadays, as the major hubs are using
C news, which is getting stricter and stricter about what it'll pass.
Articles have been dropped on the floor for a misplaced comma in the
header.
>..... Oh, BTW, what do you know
>about the Usenet Mercury news groups that I've seen mentioned here. Do you get
>them? A friend of mine with an account at the University of Texas looked
>around and they don't get anything like that there. Just wondering...
I think the mercury groups are a German only distribution, and
you'd have to get your admin to get uunet or someoone who gets the groups
to forward it to you.
TO ALL PLANNING TO SAT UP A UUCP SITE, HOWEVER SMALL.
Read the news.admin group regularly for a while. There also
will hopefully be a new group called news.transport(s), which you'll
need to follow. These groups let you keep up with what's happening
in news software, and by running a uucp site, however small, you are
an admin, and should keep current on what's going on.
I found out there that a recent change to Cnews had tightened up
on Date: header parsing, and all my messages were being dropped on the
floor. ( Thanks Matthew )
Re: Mailing Lists. The response has been small, and Hermes doesn't
make mailing list administration easy, so it's a no go. However, I've
agreed to provide NA support, for what little I've figured out so far,
and will refer any thing I can't explain to Martin. This is for Hermes,
as I no longer use Mercury, plus the English doc available for Mercury
are quite good.

Last question first, no, it doesn't. George Richardson, of the Merlin Group
who designed the board, said that Dave wants one for the MSTE, but there may
not be enough room in the machine for one. If he is able to get one made,
he said that you shouldn't expect it within the year.
As for the first question, there's the Matrix cards from Germany. There's
also AlberTT (1024x768 w/ 16 colors from a palette of 4096). It's VDI-
compatible, so it works with a lot of stuff, like DynaCADD, Calamus SL, etc.
Finally, there's Leonardo24: 512x512 with 16 million colors; it will show as
many of those 16mil as you can fit on the screen (512x512=262,144 colors).
First 50 are $400 from Lexicor. It will run on an SC1224 or SC1435 or
multisync monitor. Has NTSC output.

My opinion (flame away if it makes you feel good):
I have Turbo ST and am quite happy with it. Although I was curious
about QST3, I *definitely* would not buy it from D. Mihocka (sp?). Yes,
his consistently poor attitude does make a difference to me. However,
now that the CodeHeads are responsible for QST3, I *will* upgrade from
Turbo ST. Mind you, I don't "need" to, but I do want to support the
CodeHeads. I just hope that the amount of $ that goes to DM (if any) is
kept to a minimum! :-)
Happy Holidays to all!

Interphase was a commercial game costing around 25 UKP. It was put on
ST Format as a freebie cover disk program. It's fairly unlikely that ST
Format will be able to help as it's not their program.
As for Starglider 1 - This doesn't work with later ST's so check before
you buy if at all possible. I think the games OK up to TOS1.4 though.

TIFF to PostScript (PS)
Hi netters,
I am looking for a conversion program for TIFF files directly to
PostScript (PS). I need the conversion for (uncompressed) black/white
and (uncompressed) gray scale pictures. The program/code should be
usable from the command line interpreter (i.e. DOS, no mouse/windows
whatsoever). I recently got the TIFF 5.0 documentation. If somebody has
already got some C/Pascal code/program I would appreciate it if he/she
could contact me.
Please send your reactions to me directly; I'll summarize to the net.
Cheers, Thomas.

Be sure to get the 1.44 Mb drive only the newest models have them and be
sure to get TOS 3.06 inside, since that one will support 1.44 Mb drives

UNIX is only available to developers at the moment, don't expect user version
before spring 1992 (that is what I heard from Atari)
It takes 80Mb disk space seem to run stable an satisfactorly. It is delivered
preinstalled on a large HD (210Mb or bigger) which can be bought later and
installed. I am not sure if the Unix disk (which is a SCSI) must be the internal
SCSI unit 0 and how you can choose between TOS and UNIX at boottime.

Should be 95% (games excluded), the other 5% is either already updated or
flaky anyway

Seemed to be quit plesant
PS. I do not own a TT it is al just what I heard and was able to try/see
at several occasions.
